City Street Lights / Rental Area Lights

What is the difference between a City Street Light and an Area light?

City Street lights are owned and operated by the City's  Public Works Department. These lights are typically installed to illuminate the right of way on a public street.

The Leesburg Electric Department installs and maintains city street lights for the Public Works Department.

All requests for new City Street Lights must be approved by the Public Works Department. To request a new City street light, contact Public Works at (352) 435-9442, they can also be reached by Public Works General E-MAIL

The City of Leesburg Electric Department offers a wide variety of rental lights for your home or neighborhood. The offering includes your standard yard light, to the fancy pole top decorative fixtures seen along Main Street in Leesburg.

We can light up your yard, your road, or even your parking lot.  A monthly rental fee will be charged to your electric bill each month for lighting.

This rental fee has three (3) components; Fixture Charge, Energy Charge and Bulk Power Charge.
If a pole is required, a monthly rental fee for the pole will apply. There are no initial fees for the installation of a light. If underground secondary has to be installed, fees will be charged for installation of underground secondary that will supply the lights with power.
