AGENDA MEMORANDUM
Meeting Date: February

From: Stan
Carter, Information Technology Director
Raymond S.
Sharp, Public Works Director
Subject: Resolution approving a new
GIS Technician position in GIS Division of the Information Technology
Department
![]()
Staff Recommendation:
Staff
recommends approval of a new GIS Technician position in GIS Division of the
Information Technology Department
Analysis:
Several
years ago, four GIS positions were eliminated. It was anticipated that two
positions would need to be added back as the use of GIS grew. The amount of
data tracked and functionality provided has increased. New, accurate GIS data is changing the daily
operation of the City’s utilities and utility personnel continue to find new
ways to use this information. This has resulted in increased requests to
provide additional data and functionality from the GIS Division. The work load
required to provide up-to-date GIS data and create the new tools and
functionality the utilities demand has grown beyond the limits of available
staff time. The addition of a new GIS Technician position is needed to meet the
demands being placed on existing GIS staff.
Options:
1. Approve the new GIS Technician position in
GIS Division; or,
2. Such alternative action as the Commission may
deem appropriate
Fiscal Impact:
The
Fiscal impact for FY 2011-12 is:
Since
the primary responsibility of this position will be mapping Stormwater
infrastructure, the Public Works Director has approved this position to be
funded by the Stormwater Fund.
Future
fiscal years will provide appropriate budgeted amounts.
