The Communications Section has experienced many changes primarily dealing with technology and state communications officer certification requirements, which have all been successfully incorporated into the section; but the most compelling need is for fully qualified and capable staff to answer when the public calls. This is our first line of defense against crime and also provides for other service needs.
The section handles a large volume of telephone calls for service. These calls consisted of 911 calls, TDD test calls, and administrative calls. The section also handles numerous police call events, which may or may not have resulted from a telephone call but required a communications officer to dispatch a police officer. The communications officers receive year round training and instruction to stay proficient in their abilities. The section is a very important link to maintaining the department’s high quality service. This is not a comprehensive accounting of all that they do but only a snapshot into the world of our call center.
This section is under the supervision of Communications Center Manager, Tina Gonzales. For more information, she can be contacted at 352-728-9860 ext. 3873.
