The purpose of the class is to operate light to heavy mobile equipment and perform skilled work in installation, support and maintenance of gas distribution systems. The class is responsible for installation and maintenance of gas distribution facilities, meter repair, assisting with disconnecting and connecting service, safety inspections, and maintaining logs and records. The class works within a general outline of work to be performed; develops work methods and sequences under general supervision. Works outside customer residences and businesses. The class works according to some procedures, but decides how and when to do things under general supervision. Requires a valid State of Florida driver license and a satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment. Must be able to obtain a Class A CDL permit by date of hire and obtain Class A CDL within 90 days of employment. Must be able to obtain required all Gas Equipment Operator qualifications certifications within 120 days of employment and maintain certifications according to department guidelines throughout employment. Must be able to obtain Maintenance of traffic (MOT) certification within 6 months of employment. Must be able to obtain and maintain city required forklift certification and maintain throughout employment. Special skills or equipment certification may be required.
