Teen Volunteers Needed At the Library

Plan ahead!  If you are a teen looking for volunteer credits toward scholarship or community service requirements, the Leesburg Public Library may be the right place for you.  The library is currently looking for volunteers to help with a monthly program for Scouts  to earn "try-its" and badges; a bi-monthly Spanish/ English storytime; and various other clerical and library-support jobs that can be scheduled throughout the week.

Teens must be at least 12 years old to apply (older teens may be needed for programs with older children).  Teens must be able to pass a State background check, and have no criminal record.  Teens must be willing to commit to a regular work schedule, and be able to stick to that schedule.  Teens may not be scheduled for more than a two hour block of volunteer work, unless required to meet program needs.  If volunteer hours are to be used for scholarship credit, teens need to supply appropriate paper work from their school's guidance office.

The library is also planning to form a new Teen Advisory Board to plan programming at the new library, scheduled for January completion.

If you are interested in any of these teen volunteer opportunities, contact Natalie Houston, Young Adult Librarian, at the Leesburg Public Library, 728-9790.
