About The Police Department:
The City of Leesburg is located in Lake County in North Central Florida approximately
45 miles northwest of Orlando. Our city limits cover 24 square miles with a population of
approximately 19,000 residents within our city limits with several thousand more residing
in the numerous retirement communities surrounding the city.
The Leesburg Police Department is a very progressive agency which currently employs 73
sworn officers and 35 civilians. We are the largest municipal agency in Lake County and
often set the trends and standards for law enforcement within the county. We are also a
"Community Oriented Policing" (C.O.P.) department. As you look through our web page this
will be quite evident.
The department is divided into three divisions;
Road Patrol,
Criminal Investigations,
and Support Services.
Within these divisions there are various specialized units including
Motor Patrol,
S.W.A.T. (Special Weapons And Tactics),
T.A.C.C. (Targeting Areas of Community Concern),
Narcotics/Vice,
School Resource,
Dare,
Code Enforcement
and Animal Control.
