1. All applicants must possess good moral character.
   
   
2. All applicants must possess Florida certification to be a police practitioner, or be currently enrolled in a Florida Criminal Justice Standards & Training Commission certification school for law enforcement officer certification.
   
   
3. A completed application package consisting of:
   1. General Information
   2. Personal Inquiry Waiver (notarized)
   3. Certification of Understanding (notarized)
   4. Veteran's Preference Questionnaire, and
   5. Drug Policy Statement
   
   
4. A general police aptitude test (spelling, vocabulary, math, reading comprehension) with a minimum passing score of 80%.
   
   
5. A written test on the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics and companion Police Canons with a minimum passing score of 80%. (Note: A pre-test and study material are provided to the applicant one week prior to the testing date.)
   
   
6. A urinalysis drug screening test pursuant to Florida State Statute 943 (Rule 11B-2700225)
   
   
7. A Psychological Stress Evaluation (P.S.E.) examination of applicant information.
   
   
8. A psychological test conducted by Dr. Vincent Skotko of Tampa, Florida.
   
   
9. Oral interview by a panel of Commanders and the Chief of Police.
   
   
10. A physical examination by a medical doctor selected by the city.
    
    
11. Probation: a. 90 days for evaluation of field training, b. 1 year probation with an evaluation for retention as a merit position police officer upon completion of a background investigation.
