Officer of The Year (2011)
Andrew Ensminger

Andrew Ensminger began his law enforcement career as a deputy sheriff with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. He served in several capacities to include DUI and Traffic Enforcement Officer, Narcotics Investigator, member of the SWAT team, and eventually promoted to patrol sergeant. In late 2008, Andy made a quality of life decision for his family and decided to relocate to Lake County. After researching several agencies in the area, Andy applied with the Leesburg Police Department and was hired in January, 2009.
Since his employment with the Leesburg Police Department, Officer Ensminger has volunteered to serve in any capacity that benefit’s the department. He has served as a patrol officer, field trainer, member of the SWAT team, and more recently as a vice officer. On October 28, 2010, and after 8 months of exhausting investigatory efforts, Andy was part of the team that initiated “Operation Double Nickel”. He walked warrants through for 56 individual drug dealers in the greater Leesburg area. With the assistance of multiple agencies to include the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Eustis Police Department, dangerous felons in Leesburg and throughout Lake County were apprehended and removed from our streets.
Officer Ensminger is described by his supervisors as a person who “leads by example; a team player; determined; never gives up”. All these accolades and more can be used to describe Officer Ensminger. He is an asset to the police department and the community he loyally serves.
