The purpose of the class is to supervise staff and enforce laws, rules, and codes regarding development activities. The class is responsible for reviewing plans, inspecting development sites, monitoring development activity, collecting information, and preparing reports and studies. The class works within broad policy and organizational guidelines; independently plans and implements projects; reports progress of major activities through periodic conferences and meetings. Must be committed to functioning in a teamwork environment, but able to work effectively without supervision as needed. Able to adjust priorities and project deadlines as the need arises. Requires Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Geography, Landscape Architecture, Public Administration, Political Science or a closely related field and a minimum of three (3) years of professional planning and zoning experience; Master’s degree highly preferred. Public sector and Environmental Resource Permitting experience preferred. Microsoft Office Suite applications and ArcMap GIS experience preferred. The following certifications are highly preferred: AICP certification, Certified Floodplain Manager certification. May require occasionally working outside regular business hours. Special Certifications and Licenses refer to state, federal, or professional certifications or licenses required entering or maintaining the job. Requires a valid State of Florida driver license and satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment.
