The purpose of the class is to perform routine manual work and maintain City property in clean, safe, and orderly manner. The class is responsible for the maintenance of City property using hand or power tools or equipment. This position typically perform a variety of responsibilities, which may include any combination of the following: light carpentry, digging, raking, sprinkler installation and repair, painting and power washing and completing logs or routine records, sod laying, mowing, trimming, planting, cleaning landscaped areas, watering, prepare and apply fertilizers, herbicides and other chemicals according to current regulations and safety practices; digging, raking, sprinkler installation and repair and completing logs or routine records: performs related duties as assigned. The class works according to set procedures under direct supervision. This position will work with both the Facilities and Grounds divisions. Time will be split as needed, generally 6 months in each division. Requires a high school diploma or GED. Requires two years or more of general routine maintenance and manual work experience. Previous experience working in a grounds maintenance and/or facilities maintenance position preferred. General knowledge of computer usage preferred. Must possess a valid State of Florida driver license and a satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment at time of hire.
