The purpose of the class is to assist the public in using library facilities and services. This position performs repetitive duties and responsibilities which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following tasks: shelving materials in either alphabetical or numerical order; packing, unpacking, checking in, and sorting materials; processing the periodical collection (example: checking in, displaying, and stamping all newspapers and periodicals, and weeding back issues); performing basic circulation functions such as checking in and securing library materials providing general assistance to library personnel. The class works according to set procedures under direct supervision. Does related work as required or requested. Requires a high school diploma or GED. Requires at least six (6) months of experience in a library or general office and customer service work. Working knowledge of library organization systems is preferred. Must have knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office Software programs, database and/or spreadsheets, Internet, and telephone etiquette and ability to handle difficult situations with assisting patrons, problem solving and multitasking. Basic mathematical and reasoning skills required. Must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, while comfortably working in a public environment. Requires a valid State of Florida driver license and a satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment.
Must be able to work weekends and evenings.
