The City of Leesburg has added a new section to its municipal website to provide the latest updates on downtown construction along Main Street.

The new web page includes a project schedule, a roadway detour map, construction images, a video and a presentation to explain the $3.8 million streetscape project. The city also will use the page for future press releases, meeting announcements and other information.

Visit the web page directly at www.leesburgflorida.gov/street or go to the city website and click on the “Main Street Construction” button from the center menu.

Streetscape construction will significantly improve the appearance of Main Street from 9th to 14th streets, reconstructing Main Street between 9th and 14th Streets, adding decorative sidewalks, crosswalks and streetlights, building a large entry feature and allowing for upgrades to water and sewer lines and storm water collection.

The project will wrap up in May 2015. Construction is scheduled on weekdays and some Saturdays through May of 2015.

A top priority is to keep traffic moving through downtown during construction. The construction contract allows only one lane closure at a time and requires the contractor to maintain access to Main Street businesses throughout the project.

The public is encouraged to visit downtown for shopping and recreation during construction. Call (352) 435-9442 for more information about the streetscape project.
