Power Restoration - Immediately after Hurricane Irma

HURRICANE IRMA RECOVERY
UPDATE FOR LEESBURG ELECTRIC CUSTOMERS

At 12 PM on Monday, September 11, 2017, Leesburg Electric Crews were fully dispatched to begin our restoration efforts in response to outages caused by Hurricane Irma. Due to high winds and continued storm effects, this was the first opportunity the Utility had to begin restoration work safely.

Leesburg Electric has developed a Priority Restoration Plan which returns energy to electric circuits that serve hospitals, shelters, schools and government agencies first. The next priority is to assess the entire system and restore power to the largest groups of customers next, and then to less populated areas, until all customers are back "online".

At the peak of the Hurricane Irma outage, 16,362 customers (or 67% of Leesburg Electric distribution system) were without power. As of 4 p.m. this afternoon, power has been restored to 2,533 customers, leaving 13,829 customers temporarily without service.

In the Fruitland Park/Villages area, due to Duke Energy transmission wires downed by the severe weather, the substation feeding this area is without energy, which may cause slightly longer outages. Leesburg Electric and Duke Energy representatives are in communication and doing everything possible to restore the transmission outage as well.

Electric Line Crews will be working from dawn until dusk every day until power is restored to all customers. At the same time, Customer Service Representatives are standing by to answer calls in order to provide you more details on local outages. We appreciate your continued patience.
