Author @ the Library Mary Anna Evans
Award-winning author Mary Anna Evans will share her guide to planning, writing, editing and publishing, Your Novel: Day by Day, at 10:30 am on Tuesday, June 25th at the Leesburg Public Library, 100 E Main St., Leesburg. That afternoon at 2 pm she will discuss her archaeological mystery series featuring Faye Longchamps and her newest book, Plunder. Both Author @ the Library events are sponsored by the Lake County Library System and the Friends of the Leesburg Library. This event is part of Leesburg's Adult Summer Reading Program, Groundbreaking Reads, and is free and open to the public.
Crafting Time @ the Library
Adults interested in doing crafts will have a new opportunity on the first Monday of each month at the Leesburg Public Library, located at 100 E. Main St., Leesburg, FL 34748. Each month participants are invited to join the free monthly planned activity or bring their own projects and enjoy time with crafty friends from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm in the Storytime Room on the first floor of the library. Helping Hand Tuesdays at the Leesburg Public Library
Do you need help applying for Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps, or temporary cash assistance? Every Tuesday, one-on-one assistance with Medicaid and food stamp applications will be provided by Access FL between 10 am and 2 pm. Also, trained SHINE volunteers will be on hand from 10 am to noon every Tuesday to provide Medicare information and counseling. Pre-registration is not necessary. The Leesburg Public Library is located at 100 E. Main Street, Leesburg, FL 34748.
OCTOBER MOUNTAIN WASHTUB BAND
Come clap your hands and tap your feet with the October Mountain Washtub Band as they perform classic country, bluegrass, gospel, patriotic, pop, and old time favorites at the Leesburg Public Library on Saturday, July 6th at 2 pm. Seating is limited - so come early! This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Leesburg Library and is free and open to the public. Leesburg Public Library, 100 East Main Street, Leesburg. GROUNDBREAKING READS
This summer anyone over the age of 18 can again join in the fun of a Summer Reading Program. Groundbreaking Reads is this summer's adult program at the Leesburg Public Library, and we are focusing on an archaeological theme! Participants earn chances to win one of several prize bags chock-full of great items by reading books, listening to audio books, or attending special programs, including the Legendary Locals of Lake County at 2 pm on June 18th, Author @ the Library Mary Anna Evans at 10:30 am & 2 pm on June 25th, the October Mountain Washtub Band at 2 pm on July 6th, the Mote-Morris House History and Dig at 2 pm on July 16th, and Guitarist Tom LaVenia at 2 pm on July 23rd.

Digital Sanborn Maps - Florida: Featured Database for June
Would you like to see where the Sumter County Courthouse was located in Leesburg on April 1st, 1885? (Lake County wasn’t formed until 1887.) Just go to www.leesburgflorida.gov/library and click on the Research Tab, select Leesburg Library Online Resources and Digital Sanborn Maps, and log on with your library card number! You’ll even see that an Artesian well was being dug next to the Courthouse on that date.
Digital Sanborn Maps provides online access to 632 large-scale maps of 139 Florida towns and cities, including such local favorites as Leesburg, Tavares, Eustis, Mount Dora, Clermont, Umatilla, and Bushnell. Dates vary, with some as early as 1884 and others as recent as 1961. The Sanborn Map Company was the primary American publisher of fire insurance maps for over 100 years. This vital resource is essential to researchers today and includes enhanced images of detailed property and land-use records. The wealth of information is valuable to local, urban, and social historians, architects, city planners, genealogists, and anyone else who has an interest in history - providing building outlines, size and shape, construction materials, building use, and more.

Bus Service to the Library
The Lake Transit bus now stops at the Leesburg Public Library on Main Street. Riders can wait for the bus on the park bench under the awning on the Elk Street side of the main entrance. Other benches are available on Elk Street near the "Bird Watchers" sculpture under the oak tree. Stop by the Library to pick up a bus schedule.
